Monday Muse (A Day Late!): Nail Art

Standard

I really wasn’t across the whole nail art phenomenon until I kept seeing awesomely styled pics popping up on Pinterest. And then when Zooey Deschanel rocked tuxedos at the Golden Globes, I knew it must have taken off; splashing some carefully arranged polish on your nails and flashing them to the world.

So why shouldn’t you and your girls do something fun with your nails for the biggest day of your life? Your nails are guaranteed to be seen (and photographed) like you’re at your own Golden Globes, so why not embrace the trend for unique and style up something fun, pretty, rustic or colourful to complement your dress, styling and day?

Your something blue perhaps?

IKEA Wedding Inspiration

Standard

Yesterday, my mum and I went to the new Ikea at Tempe. I was really looking forward to it, especially considering that it is supposed to be the largest Ikea in the southern hemisphere. And it didn’t disappoint! With almost twice the amount of inspiration as the Ikea at Rhodes, we were really excited looking through all of the new rooms and ideas. And it got me to thinking. With all of the available items at Ikea (and at such reasonable prices) how easy would it be to create a cost effective but gloriously pretty design for reception decor? Turns out quite easy as this morning I was able to trawl the online selections available at Ikea and throw together 3 very different looks. Enjoy!

And if you want even more inspiration about how to make Ikea purchases work how you want them to, check out the Ikea Hackers blog.

DIY Dud? Let Etsy Be Your Saviour…

Standard

It only occurred to me yesterday as I trawled through my local Sparty’s store looking for interesting pieces to theme a spur of the moment surprise retirement dinner for my “father-in-law” (not yet official), that not everyone is naturally a DIY-er. I get immense pleasure out of crafting unique, handmade pieces and find myself searching for any excuse to DIY something up. But, there are many who don’t. Yesterday, as I stood amongst the fair selection of block coloured party accessories, I overheard a woman say to her friend “aargh! Too much choice…I wish I had someone here who can do this sort of stuff”. And it got me to thinking. Here I am posting easy DIY tutorials and linking to creative things for people to try at home when there are many out there who would love to achieve the same look and feel of ic handmade but either don’t have the time, patience, energy or creativity to DIT (do it themselves).

Et voila! Ladies of the non-DIY persuasion, never fear…Etsy is here. A collective of fabulous crafters and creative types, Etsy is a haven for those who want a creative, handmade aesthetic for their big day without the hassle. Just doing a very quick search this morning turned up some amazing finds, all at really good prices.

This awesome headpiece is made from beautiful tulle, sinamay and french netting with Swarovski pearl accents. Good for the races too!

Time consuming for you, but pretty and authentically handmade by someone else? Well, no one would need to know! And what about guest favours?

I think these pencils are adorable, and cheap too!

How cute are these heart cookies? All handmade and scrumptious! Looking for something to give your bridesmaids as a thanks?

As if you could pass up these 14kt gold earrings for less than $20!

And does it get any cuter than this “for like ever” sign? Perfect for decorating your reception space and even better on your wall at home afterwards. And the fact that it is made from 100% recycled wood means you can feel all good inside too.

And, I have got to stop now or else this post will end up with four hundred links to all the amazing things I have found! If you’ve found something awesome on Etsy or you sell something awesome on Etsy, let me know! I’d love to be able to ogle at it too!

DIY Loving

I think the beautiful thing about weddings, especially the ones we feature here at Our Sweet Love, is how readily brides and grooms are embracing DIY elements to not only make their day unique and handmade but also helping them to  cut costs along the way. The web is full of inspirational DIY tutorials to help couples decide what is within their capacity and how to execute stunning results. You all know that I am crushing hard for Pinterest at the moment (who isn’t, right?) and that is because it allows brides to not only create inspiration boards for every element of their wedding day but also because it has become a great way of searching for DIY inspiration.

Inspiration: Table Arrangements

Standard

I think the best part of planning any type of celebration is thinking about how to arrange the table. I h ave these grandiose notions of having a buffet filled with charger plates, table runners, different napkins and rings as well as centrepiece odds and ends so that whenever I invited friends around for a dinner party or something simple like an afternoon cup of tea, I can always set a mood. Weddings are probably the only time people really allow themselves to really deck out a table, throwing caution and (often) cost to the wind. I love that about weddings. Below are some gorgeous and different table inspirations to help you set the mood on the most expensive dinner of your life!

Can you believe that something as simple as repurposed wood as a table runner could pack such a punch? This is rustic as well as pretty as well as masculine…it’s pretty perfect. I also love the simple colour choice of the white and fuschia table setting as featured on Joyful Weddings and Events. The large white mod globes are easily DIY and can even be used as lanterns to dangle from your reception venue’s ceiling.

This subtle and muted grey and pink tablescape was featured on the Every Last Detail Blog and is simply divine. This is just at home as a simple kitchen tea or bridal shower.

I stumbled across this gorgeous rustic table centrepiece design on Pinterest. I love that it would be fairly inexpensive and easy to create yourself if you were so inclined. Every girl loves a vintage inspired aesthetic on some level. I think that the eclectic vibe of this table as featured on Hostess With the Mostess is so pretty.

Whether it be for a wedding or a wedding related event like an engagement party, kitchen tea or bridal shower, feel free to really embrace the creativity of designing a truly pretty and inspiring mood by playing around with table settings.
