So, Aussie ladies – we’re all pumped for Melbourne Cup today, right? I don’t know about you but I love the races…the pretty dresses, the hats and fascinators, the heels, the clutches, the glasses of champagne at midday; what’s not to love?!
The Man and I met at the races in Randwick and we have often toyed with the idea of creating a spectacular races themed wedding day when we get married. It seems very fitting to draw on this inspiration today!
Why not use the horse motif throughout your day to create cohesion? Here we have also played on the idea of winner’s ribbons and medals. Table numbers with guest’s names on each card could also act as a favour (or to be used for post-food festivities later on).
I like the idea of using bold colours with dramatic stripes as shown on the table above. And what could be cuter than sourcing horse toys, figurines or statues to use in decorating your tablescape? I particularly like the idea of them being spread around the table on grass like the table setting below.
And why not push the boat out and even create miniature white picket fencing to keep your horses in their pen during the ceremony?! You’d also need splashes of spring colour with seasonal flowers like the ones above.
I love the idea of wearing a fascinator to a wedding – very royal/regal but also very elegant. Add a veil to the headband style fascinators or some tulle to a comb style hat/fascinator and you have a ready made wedding style headwear!
But why not stay the traditional white in your wedding dress but embrace spring colour in your headwear? Wearing a cocktail style dress could be cute for a races themed wedding, especially if the silhouette is super feminine like the cinched waist style above.
And then embrace the colourful fashions on the field and have your bridesmaids dress in different coloured hues to match the blooms around the track (or your tables!). Fascinators and clutches are a must (and could even replace the need for bouquets!).
And don’t forget to follow the theme right through to the favours. These horse shoe shaped cookies are cute to give guests as they leave or keep the thrill of the races going for your guests and provide them a betting slip for romance themed horse names and see if they can make a little money from wishing you well on your big day.
Oh, the possibilities are endless and absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy Melbourne Cup day ladies!
